About
If you are like many people, searching for a photographer to shoot your
wedding may be the first time in your life you have ever hired a professional
photographer. While many of Davids clients are visually savvy
people working in the arts or advertising fields, the average person
may feel a little overwhelmed and anxious over the whole process - as
if planning the wedding itself werent a daunting enough project.
Everyone wants beautiful pictures and has great expectations, but what
exactly is it that constitutes a wonderful photographer and terrific
pictures?
Just as you met your spouse-to-be and somehow decided this is the
person for me, you need to have that same gut, visceral feeling
about the person who will be there your entire wedding day taking pictures.
Not only do you want to end up with a beautiful, artistic record of
the day, but you also want someone who you, your family and guests will
feel completely at ease with. You certainly dont want one of those
guys weve all seen running around with a camera, barking out orders,
getting in everyones face, and being generally annoying (if not
downright obnoxious) in the name of doing their job. Ironically,
even if you were willing to put up with the obtrusiveness, which you
most definitely dont have to, it is inevitable that the pictures
will in every respect show the strain and discomfort level that the
subjects were put through. There will be nothing natural or spontaneous
about them. So you probably have a pretty good idea of what you want
to avoid, but beyond that, what are you looking for in a photographer?
There are most definitely lots of photographers out there with different
styles and approaches.
Davids approach is what would be termed photojournalistic.
The emphasis is on storytelling through candid pictures which are not
forced or contrived in any way. Key to this is the rapport David develops
with his subjects and his knack for putting people at ease, capturing
personalities and emotions on film. This is all done with a great sense
of style, a lot of sensitivity, and always a good dash of humor and
joie de vivre. Portraits and family shots are of course taken as well,
but handled in a very relaxed, natural manner.
Services Offered
First and foremost, David Gordon is not a wedding studio
which means that you deal with him personally from the very beginning.
All the images on this website were taken by him and you do not meet
with a sales person showing you different peoples work.
Prices will vary somewhat depending on the size of the wedding, how
much (if any) travel time is involved, time of year, etc. Please contact
David regarding availability and a quote. David does not sell packages,
preferring instead to give his clients the freedom and flexibility to
do as they
please. In fact his fee includes the negatives, an option which is not
even available with most wedding studios. You will receive a complete
set of 4x6 prints which are all numbered on the back. These are
yours to keep. David typically shoots a combination of color and black
& white. The percentage is up to you and would be worked out ahead
of time. An assistant is included in the fee. For very large weddings
a shooting assistant or second photographer is an option. The amount
of film included in the fee and how much David shoots will vary depending
on the size of the wedding. For medium-large size weddings David typically
shoots a good 1,000 exposures or more. He will give you an estimate
and shoot as much film as necessary.
Davids fee includes his services for anything up to a nine hour
period, which will typically cover soup to nuts. More time is an option
if necessary. You will receive your 4x6 prints
(proofs) within 3-5 weeks after the wedding. The negatives will be kept
on file as long as you
like, or you may opt to take the negatives (David reserves the right
to make prints for his own use). You can come back at any time to order
additional prints or albums.
Simple, tasteful permanently bound matted style books are made-to-order.
Less expensive slip-in type books are also available for parents or
grandparents. For something truly unique, David can have a one-of-a-kind
scrapbook type album hand-made by a bookbinder. David will work with
you to help lay out and put together whatever you like.
Other options are engagement or casual portrait sessions prior to the
wedding, as well as photography of the rehearsal dinner. While based
in New York City, David is available for travel worldwide.
